Directions to Hinterwood:
Hinterwood is located at the end of Leaky Valley Rd. just off of Old Hill City Road, which connects Hill City and Keystone (same route as the 1880 Train!), making it quickly accessible from Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, and from Highway 16.
We are approximately 7 miles from Mt. Rushmore, and centrally located to many other Black Hills area attractions.

From The Rapid City Airport:
After leaving the airport, take a right onto Highway 44 heading West. After 7.3 miles, turn left onto Elk Vale Rd. (also Highway 16 Truck Bypass). Continue straight for 5.8 miles, and then turn left onto Highway 16 (Mt. Rushmore Rd.). After 16.5 miles (you will pass the exit to Mt. Rushmore & Keystone), turn left onto Twin Springs Rd. Continue for 1 mile until the road “T’s” with Old Hill City Rd. and take a left. The turn for Leaky Valley Rd. will be on the left after 1.7 miles. Continue 1,000 feet where the road ends at Hinterwood.
From Rapid City, SD:
From downtown Rapid City, head south on Mt. Rushmore Rd. until it turns into Highway 16. Depending on ~20 miles depending on your starting point (you will pass the exit to Mt. Rushmore & Keystone), turn left onto Twin Springs Rd. Continue for 1 mile until the road “T’s” with Old Hill City Rd. and take a left. The turn for Leaky Valley Rd. will be on the left after 1.7 miles. Continue 1,000 feet where the road ends at Hinterwood.
From Custer, SD:
From downtown Custer, head North on Highway 385. Continue for 14.2 miles (enjoy the view of Crazy Horse Memorial on the right as you drive!) until you arrive at Hill City. Turn right onto Old Hill City Rd. and continue for 5.8 miles before turning left onto Leaky Valley Rd. Continue 1,000 feet where the road ends at Hinterwood.
From Keystone, SD:
From the shops on Winter St. in downtown Keystone, turn left at the stoplight to head West on Old Hill City Road and continue for 4.4 miles where the turn for Leaky Valley Rd. will be on the right. Continue 1,000 feet where the road ends at Hinterwood.
